We have collected in a code of conduct of the traveller what seems to be the most representative behaviours and attitudes to adopt or to avoid. The fact of learning how to discover nature by limiting the side effects of human attendance and to discover other cultures without judging them, to have confidence in one's common sense and to take into consideration some advice could insure a good trip, the development of host communities as well as lasting preservation practices. This code is intended to the friends of nature from all over the world who will travel with the assistance of ECOTOUR.

The respect for regulations

  • The regulations of the protected areas (signs, traffic, moorage, collection bans) have to be respected.

  • Respect the fishing regulations (places, species, methods, limit size)

  • Some sites are subjected to an entrance fees enabling the participation in sites preservation and protection. You will receive a receipt after the payment of these fees.

  •  Respect for the National Park : it is forbidden to drive or to walk outside the authorized paths.

  • The promoter, authorities or concerned visitor must be informed about any behaviour infringing the cultural and natural environment regulations. It isn't a matter of denunciation but that of public awarness.

  • It is not allowed to buy rare or vulnerable species or product manufactured from these species as well as the trade which is illegal.

  • It is not admitted to go in a site which is temporairily prohibited (for exemple : the crucial tern nestling).

The respect for the visited sites (fauna, flora and their habitat)

  • It is advised to move calmly so as not to disturb the natural environment atmosphere.

  • The non-regulated areas must be considered equally than the regulated ones.

  • It is not authorized to touch wild animals or to feed them in order not to change their diet. Their natural habitat mustn't be mobified. It is better to be near them for the observation. The animals meeting areas(nestling or spawn sites, confinement areas etc.) is specially destined for them. It is at any case spectacular to observe disturbed animals. A bird colony flying away entails probably the disappearance of a specy nestling.

  • It is not allowed to take away artecraft, plant, organism or part of the organism.

  • The vehicles must be parked in the planned areas rather than in a wild environment.

  • It is expected to the tourist to choose judiciously its walking and rest zone. Gloves mustn't be put during the dive. Be carful to the palm leafblow damages.

  • Move on the way-marked footpath or on the planned tracks.

  • It isn't advised to sign your way with graffiti.

The reduction of the impact on the environment

  • It is forbidden to collect or trade shellfish, butterflies, wild mineral and seeds. The remowal of these impoverish the natural heritage. Let them there for the pleasure of the following visitors.

  • Gather up your or other persons' rubbish is profitable. As a recall : a floating plastic explosive bag can kill a torstoise.

  • Behaviours that can reduce kinds of biologic, chemic, vusual, scented or resonant pollution must be adopted.

  • Favour the activities in little groups since they wield less influence over the environment.

  • The use of less polluting equipment is better.

  • The consumption of protected or rare species-based traditional meals or non-sized regulated species such as lambis, lobster fishes isn't advised.

  • Take the bag for the collection of all rubbish (cigarette butt, film boxes, plastic explosive bags, piles, battery) and deposit them in the planned zone. Keep the most polluting rubbish -non-destructible rubbish. If there is no special place for this, take the rubbish home.

  • Water is a scarce commodity in the world. Use it parsimoniously und respectfully. Take a shower rather than a bath. Liquid detergent without phosphate, biodegradable soaps is preferable. Nothing mustn't be washed on the water sand.

  • Use the appropriate means of transport that is to say the non-polluting ones -those that consume less energie.

  • Natural ventilation is better than air conditioning. Switch off the light and the not used apparatus.

The respect for the human environment

  • It is forbidden to collect fruits in the plants or to walk upon the cultivation.

  • The customs, traditions and religions of the host population and the cultural differncies must be respected. We have no lessons to provide.

  • It is advised to respect the intimacy and the integrity of the local population and not to take their pictures without their consent.

  • It is recommended to adapt one's behavour and code of conduct to the visited human environment, to be discrete and not to shock with inadequate behavour or dress. Very tight, bald, ostentatious, casual dresses are likely to be banned in some areas.

  • Sexual tourism is an offence against human dignity and is otherwise condemned by the law. Many travellers come in certain countries where they are attempted by the great sexual freedom of the inhabitants. However, they don't know that this freedom is underlain by an ambient poverty.
  • At the restaurant, the origin of the product must be known.
  • Be open to the acquisition of new knowledge and don't hesitate to ask questions and to listen to the answers.
  • It is better to consume local products rather than the imported ones the production methode of which complies with the environment respect.

  • The attendancy in some sites compromises the local population. These latter are subjected to the harmful effects. The fact of choosing local hotels rather than national or foreign hotel chains, local transport, local paid population services (guides, cook, mule-driver, porter, housework) is often the best mean to make them benefit directly from incomes generated by tourism.
